World Architecture - Jan 2002 The Idea Factory

The article analysed about 9 Stock Orchard Street - an combination of house and office, designed by the architect Sarah Wigglesworth and Jeremy Till.

The revolutionary idea of putting working and living space together has achieved a sustainable use of urban space.

The living space and work space are separated, indicated by different materials and geometry. Left side shown in this plan is the living area, consist of bedrooms bathroom and kitchen. On the right side, is the working space, including meeting room and offices.

Section of the building has shown the height relation of the design, a unique tower erected at the centre of the building break the boundary of the normal pattern of house and office design.

The interior has confirmed what the architects have achieved. A combination, yet a separation of office and house has a multifunctional use and a consistent aesthetic over all.

The play of light and shadow emphasises the atmosphere of living space, and the contrast of materiality stand out the function of the office.
